LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) is investigating the death of an inmate.

Monday night, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives were dispatched to the Calcasieu Correctional Center in reference to a dead inmate, Santana N. Lebine, 34, of Lake Charles, according to Kayla Vincent, CPSO spokesperson.

During the initial investigation it was learned at 7:30 p.m. other inmates sharing a cell with Lebine found her unresponsive and notified correctional deputies.

Vincent states deputies attempted to revive Lebine, but she was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.

The Calcasieu Coroner will determine the cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.
