A Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Deputy has been terminated after the sheriff's office says she allegedly crashed a CPSO unit while off-duty and refused to cooperate in an internal affairs investigation.

The Sheriff's Office says that Deputy Melissa Romero was arrested Sunday, October 4, for DWI 1st refusal after an investigation into a single-vehicle crash involving a marked CPSO unit.

Romero was reportedly off-duty at the time of the crash.

That crash, according to deputies, occurred near the intersection of E. Burton Street and Goodley Road in Sulphur.

Romero was terminated on Monday, October 5, after the sheriff's office says she refused to cooperate in their Internal Affairs investigation into the incident.

She worked as a Corporal on Patrol and had been with the department for approximately 14 years.
