Acadiana Animal Aid received a big donation today from one young Acadiana resident hoping to make a difference.

Ella Conrad, who has an auto-immune disease that is in remission, was inspired by another young woman's gesture to donate supplies to the shelter.

Jeanine Foucher with Acadiana Animal Aid said Ella has been collecting donations for the shelter for the last few months and received not only donations from other local residents, but even some from Texas.

Ella and her mother visited the shelter Friday afternoon to drop off their donations.

The young girl said her reason for wanting to donate to the shelter was simple - her love of four-legged friends.

"I really wanted to do it because I love helping animals. I really love cats and dogs."

Foucher said organizers of the Krewe de Chiens parade heard about Ella's efforts and asked her to be royalty in this year's parade.
