Waitr has launched a campaign to deliver free Thanksgiving meals to feed families in need this holiday
On Monday, October 21, the Louisiana-based food delivery app launched its Share Thanksgiving food drive campaign.
The company says that beginning Monday, when anyone orders from Waitr, the company will donate toward the purchase of meals for area families in need on Thanksgiving.
Partnering with local restaurants during the Thanksgiving week, Waitr says hot meals will be delivered to around 4,000 families nationwide. Around 2,000 families were fed through last year's initiative, according to the company.
“Our goal is to ensure no one in our community goes hungry this Thanksgiving,” said Whitney Savoie, Market Development Director for Waitr. “If we can play a part in spreading a little bit of joy – even if it’s just in a small way like bringing them a hot meal, it’s worth it.”
Families in need of assistance will be identified through local organizations. A family can also be nominated at waitrapp.com.
The five-week campaign will conclude on November 22.
“There are a lot of families who are not sure where their next meal will come from," said Savoie. "The Share Thanksgiving initiative gives them the chance to enjoy and celebrate a hot Thanksgiving dinner.”
