The Vermilion Soil & Water Conservation District is hosting a Public Scoping Webinar for the Lower Vermilion River Watershed Plan.

The online webinar is set for Thursday, August 6.

The Vermilion Soil & Water Conservation District (VSWCD), USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service and other federal, state, regional and local partners are hosting the meeting.

In June, VSWCD announced the beginning of the 18-month Environmental Assessment Phase of the Lower Vermilion River Watershed Plan in which a number of possible Alternatives will be evaluated.

This public scoping webinar will be held to explain the Alternative studies and environmental assessment to be included in the Lower Vermilion River Watershed Plan. The public is encouraged to participate in the online Public Scoping Webinar to view alternatives, ask questions and offer comments.

Participants are encouraged to log on prior to the meeting start time but are welcome to join at any point throughout the virtual event.

Interactive conference technology provider Zoom will be used to facilitate the meeting.

More information and instructions for logging into the meeting via Zoom are available on the VSWCD website, www.lvrwp.com.

The overall goal of the Lower Vermilion River Watershed Plan is to address the recurring threat of saline storm surge and similar flood-related damages to or loss of homes, infrastructure, crops, livestock, and local industry for the residents and landowners of central and lower Vermilion Parish.

The final plan will identify solutions to mitigate and reduce saline storm surge and other flood damage to farms, homes, and businesses, while also enhancing public safety and improving overall water quality and wetland habitat in the area.
