Fishing for Memories, the annual fishing rodeo fundraiser for Alzheimer’s research, wraps up today.

The event’s mission is to raise funds to find a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease and awareness to support victims and their families through a family-friendly event. Winners receive cash prizes for inshore and offshore saltwater categories in the adult division and lifetime fishing licenses in the youth division. The event is open to fishing in all Louisiana waters and features activities for kids, live music, a live auction, and an awards ceremony Sunday after the scales close at 1:30 p.m.

We caught up with Holly Boffy, co-founder of the event, this afternoon.

“All of our fishermen are coming in now after four days of fishing, and they’re getting all their fish weighed,” Boffy said. “We hope that people enjoy our Louisiana outdoors, but also develop an awareness for Alzheimer’s and what it does to families. This is a disease we should conquer.”

The activities during the rodeo included an auction, awards ceremony and lots of activities for kids.

Here’s a story from last month about the event:

On GMA today, Dave Baker sat down with Holly Boffy who shared details on a June event that will use fishing to help conquer Alzheimer’s disease.

Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks. “Fishing for Memories” is a benefit fishing rodeo that will raise funds to find a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease as well as awareness to support victims and their families through a family-friendly event.

Winners receive cash prizes for inshore and offshore saltwater categories in the adult division and lifetime fishing licenses in the youth division. The event is open to fishing in all Louisiana waters and features activities for kids, live music, a live auction, and an awards ceremony Sunday after the scales close.

The event will be held June 6th starting at 12:01am through June 9th at the Abbeville Harbor & Terminal Public Boat Launch.

Tickets are available at multiple locations around Acadiana!
