Five Abbeville teenagers are in custody for dozens of car burglaries throughout Acadiana.

According to Chief Bill Spearman, the juveniles were coming back from a Mardi Gras parade in Lafayette when Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s deputies spotted the vehicle, and then a pursuit ensued.

Police say the group targeted cars in Youngsville, Broussard, Lafayette and Vermilion parishes.

More arrests are expected.

Guns and ammunition stolen from the vehicles were recovered. Investigators say all vehicles affected were left unlocked.

“Lock your cars, take your keys, especially firearms out of your vehicles, and keep them in your homes. They’re actually pulling on unlocked cars and getting this stuff out of unlocked cars,” said Chief Bill Spearman.
