UPDATE: Services set for former Maurice Mayor Barbara Picard

Services will be Friday for Barbara Picard, former mayor of Maurice, who died Monday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Burial will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Picard, 88, served as an alderman and Mayor of the village for 31 years. She also served 30 years as a secretary at Maurice and North Vermilion high schools.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.  A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Thursday evening in the funeral home.  Visiting hours will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until the time of service.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 200 Chief H. Fred Road, Maurice, LA is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Former Maurice Mayor Barbara Picard died Monday afternoon.

Mayor Picard served as mayor from 1982-2006. She was the first woman elected as mayor in Vermilion Parish.

Her leadership laid the foundation for what the community is today, according to current Mayor Wayne Theriot.

Flags at city hall will be flown at half-staff.
