The Abbeville mayor will enter into negotiations with the Vermilion Oaks Country Club regarding the fate of their golf course.
The city council voted 3-1-1 in favor of the decision during a meeting Tuesday evening.
For some weeks now, council members have been exploring and discussing the possibility of leasing the Vermilion Oaks Country Club Golf Course, which closed last year.
The golf course has been on the market since it closed, but it hasn’t sold. The committee appointed to research the issue learned that the club operated at a loss from 2012 until it closed last fall, posting a loss of nearly $500,000. If the city leased the facility, it would operate it only as a golf course, not a country club.
