A team from Teurlings Catholic High School was named one of three runners up in the state finals of the Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge on Thursday.

Students Hailey Privat, Olivia Leonard, and Emma Lemaire pitched the idea of an app called Plan Pals. The app's concept is a safe space for people to meet and make new friends. People could use the app to connect with others with similar interests, chat, and create friendships. Plan Pals would ensure safety by providing background checks and the option to send an SOS if you're feeling unsafe.

As a runner up, the team won $2,500 for Teurlings and $2,500 for the group to further pursue the creation of Plan Pals.

The grand prize winners were a group from Shreveport, who came up with the idea of Traceline, a tracker that can be put inside your clothes. Anyone in an unsafe or compromising situation can activate the tracker, which will then contact police.

You can watch the full live stream of the state finals here.

The Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge is a partnership between Junior Achievement of Acadiana and the Drew Brees Foundation. It encourages students to pitch their big ideas and turn them into reality.

Congratulations, Plan Pals!
