Students in Acadiana get a look at career opportunities

21st ANNUAL CAREER CONNECTIONS EXPO Career Connections 2020, for the community by the community, provides the opportunity for businesses to educate and share career information about the various industries in the Acadiana area. Operating in its 21st year, Career Connections also teaches students on what their true cost of living will be from housing to entertainment to family. Who: Career Connections will host 4000 high school students from Lafayette, Iberia, St. Martin and Vermilion Parishes to be able to identify and explore career opportunities in a wide variety of career fields. This will connect students specifically to local companies as they discover what education and training their ideal occupation will require. Acadiana tenth graders were given the opportunity to explore different career paths and learn about continuing education.

Through the Career Connections program, around 4,000 tenth graders from across 4 parishes gathered at the Cajundome Convention Center to discover what careers are available to them.

Booths at the event included both professional and technical careers in areas of engineering, technology, business, finance, health and human services, and arts and humanities.

"It's a great opportunity for tenth graders who are making a very key decision about their future. Not only about what careers are available in our community but how much is it going to actually cost for them to live in the lifestyle of their choosing," organizer Angela Morrison said.
