An investigation revealed that 36-year-old Jerlyn R. Dumas left her home on Terrebonne Street with her child after being confronted by witnesses who saw the child fall.

Officers began searching for Dumas and her child following the incident. A search warrant was also obtained for her home.

During the search, detectives say they found evidence supporting witness statements that the child fell from a second story window. Police say marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also discovered at the residence.

Dumas and her child were eventually found along Terrebonne Street.

The child was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later released.

Dumas was arrested and booked on charges of child desertion, possession of marijuana (1st offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
