A Patterson man has been booked in connection with the beating of an 82-year-old man.

Jarrett Williams, 41, was booked with second-degree battery in connection with the Sunday night incident, said Patterson Police Chief Garrett Grogan.

When police were called to the man’s home, it was for a medical call, Grogan said. The victim’s relatives found him and thought he had fallen, the chief said. However, after he was transported to the hospital for treatment, medical personnel told police that his injuries were not consistent with a fall, Grogan said.

That’s when the criminal investigation began, he said.

Grogan says items belonging to Williams were found in the yard where the victim was found. Officers proceeded with the investigation that resulted in Williams’ arrest, he said.

The investigation is not complete, and additional and/or upgraded charges are pending, Grogan said.

The victim remains in stable but guarded condition; investigators have been unable to speak with him about the incident because of his condition, the chief said.
