A second lighthouse could soon be seen along Berwick’s riverfront.
According to St. Mary Now, there are plans to move the 125-foot tall Ship Shoal Lighthouse to Berwick. The lighthouse currently sits off the coast of Dulac.
Berwick already has a lighthouse along the riverfront, the 37-foot tall Southwest Reef Lighthouse which can be seen from the US 90 bridge across the Atchafalaya River. That red lighthouse is iconic to the city.
Berry Brothers General Contractors has agreed to move the lighthouse. In 1987, Berry Bros. Move the Southwest Reef Lighthouse to its current location.
