Four candidates announced for St. Mary superintendent position

The St. Mary Parish School Board has announced the four candidates who will be considered for the position of superintendent of schools.

The position, currently held by Leonard Armato, will become vacant following his retirement on June 30. Two local educators are among the four who will be considered by board members for the position. The applications were opened on February 12 and reviewed for appropriate credentials and experience in the presence of school system officials.

Qualifying candidates must hold or be immediately eligible for state superintendent certification.

Candidates include two current St. Mary Parish administrators,  Assistant Superintendent Dr. Teresa Bagwell with 37 years’ experience and Instructional Supervisor of Secondary Education Dr. Buffy Fegenbush with 27 years’ experience.  One in-state candidate, Rapides Parish Executive Assistant Superintendent Mr. Cylde Washington, with 22 years’ experience and one out of state applicant, Cleveland, Texas principal Dr. Glenn Barnes, 20 years’ experience, will also be considered.
