A 51-year-old man is dead after a fire in Jeanerette on Inez Street that is believed to have started in the kitchen.
State Fire Marshal deputies are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a house fire that occurred Thursday afternoon. They say the homeowner who has not been identified was the sole victim in that fire. Cause of death is still pending with the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office.
On the afternoon of Thursday, January 17, St. Mary Parish Fire District #11 responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Inez St. in Jeanerette.
The body of the homeowner was later located in the bedroom of the home.
Investigators determined the fire originated in the kitchen. The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined. They are not ruling out an electrical malfunction or improper cooking practices as possible contributors to the fire.
