UPDATE: State police have released the name of the person killed in a crash this morning in St. Mary Parish.
According to a spokesman with Troop I, 29-year-old Josue Lorenzo Sanchez sustained fatal injuries after rear-ending a tractor-trailer while traveling westbound on Hw.90 near Delmar Avenue in Bayou Vista.
The crash happened shortly after 5:00 a.m. and shut down both lanes of the highway. Both lanes reopened later this morning.
The state police spokesman says Sanchez was wearing a seatbelt. Troopers have ruled out impairment as a factor in the crash, but they believe Sanchez may have been speeding, according to the spokesman.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
A toxicology sample was taken from Sanchez to be submitted for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
