Lanes of I-10 West open, victim in fatal 18-wheeler crash identified

Both lanes are now open on I-10 West following a closure that lasted around 9 hours.

At 5:30 p.m., one lane of I-10 West was opened at between Henderson and Breaux Bridge following a fatal crash that closed both lanes Monday morning.

The victim in that fatal crash has been identified as 37-year-old Kevin Deglandon Jr., of Mandeville.

During that time, I-10 West near Lobdell was still experiencing heavy congestion following a crash in that area.

That area is now open and cleared.

UPDATE: As of 3:00 pm,  I-10 West remains closed between LA 415 (Lobdell) and LA 328 (Breaux Bridge) for vehicle recovery operations.

Motorists may use US 190 West as an alternate route. Congestion has reached LA 1

One lane of traffic is set to open at around 4:30 pm, according to State Police.

I-10 westbound remains closed before Breaux Bridge due to a fatal crash involving several vehicles.

Police say I-10 westbound between Henderson and Breaux Bridge will be shut down for the next several hours.

According to Breaux Bridge Assistant Police Chief Terry Latiolais, the crash involved four 18-wheelers and one small car. One of the 18-wheelers did catch fire as a result of the crash. The driver of that vehicle received minor injuries.

A driver of another of the 18-wheelers was killed in the crash, according to Latiolais. That person’s identity has not been released.

All of the others involved received minor injuries.

Traffic is still being diverted at LA 415 in West Baton Rouge. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and utilize mobile map apps for alternate routes. Traffic delays can be expected for several hours. Stranded motorists are being rerouted.

The Breaux Bridge Police Department says that they are investigating the crash. State Police and other agencies are assisting.

State Police shared an update to their Facebook page about the cleanup. One photo shows packages of toilet paper rolls spilled across the roadway as a result of the crash.

This incident is separate from another crash that blocked the right lane of I-10 West past LA 328. All lanes are open following that incident.
