A special meeting of the St. Martinville City Council has been called for Thursday afternoon to stop Mayor Melinda Mitchell’s former transition manager from reviewing the city’s financial records and discuss the position of chief financial officer for the city, the Daily Iberian reports.

According to the agenda, Prosper, District 1 Councilman Mike Fuselier and District 3 Councilman Dennis Paul Williams called for the meeting, the newspaper reports.

There are two issues: one is the snafu that occurred over the deposit of some funds into a police enforcement program. To see our story about that, click here.

Mayor Pro Tem Craig Prosper sent out an email saying that the mayor’s chief financial officer, who wasn’t able to determine if the money was ever deposited, is “completely incompetent and cannot start to fulfill the duties of that department,” the newspaper wrote.

The Police Chief eventually found the money by calling the bank and asking about the deposit.

The second issue is a plan by the mayor to give her transition manager, who is a consultant and not a city employee, access to the city’s financial records without council approval, the newspaper writes.
