The entire north side of St. Martinville is without power after a truck crashed into a power pole.
Chief Ricky Martin tells KATC that the truck collided with the pole on Main Street at around 5:00 pm and power to the north side of town has been out since that time.
As of 9:00 p.m. Chief Martin says the power should be restored in 30 minutes time. Martin tells KATC that the driver told his officers that he fell asleep at the wheel. That driver has been cited.
The power company was on scene but the pole has to be replaced. No time frame on the return of the power was given.
Most of Main Street is blocked at Porter Street near where the crash occurred. Martin says that drivers should avoid the area.
