The State Fire Marshal’s Office has arrested a woman from Arnaudville for setting the home she was renting on fire.

The 49-year-old woman was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on Monday, November 26, on one count simple arson.

On November 8, 2018, State Fire Marshal deputies were contacted by the St. Martin Fire District to assist with determining the origin and cause of a house fire located in the 1000 block of Sloan Road in Arnaudville.

Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen and classified the case as incendiary.

The suspect, who was renting the home, told investigators she suffered from mental illness and that she had not been taking her medication, according to investigators.

Following hospitalization, investigators interviewed the woman once more, where she admitted to setting the fire as an attempt to keep her neighbors from bothering her.

Additional witness statements indicate the suspect made the same confession to others.

She was then placed under arrest.
