Uncle and nephew arrested in connection with Butte Larose burglaries

Two men have been arrested in connection with vehicle and camp burglaries in the Butte Larose area.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office says they began investigating reports of vehicle and camp burglaries in the Butte Larose area of St. Martin Parish that occurred in the early morning hours of November 17, 2018.

On November 21, 2018, 22-year-old Richard Devyn Johnson of Catahoula was arrested in connection with the burglaries.

A warrant for a second suspect 24-year-old Zachary Johnson of Youngsville. Johnson was arrested Monday, November 26, 2018, at a home in Vermilion Parish.

Deputies with St. Martin Parish say the two are related.  Zachary Johnson is the uncle of Richard Johnson.

Investigators say that the suspects wrecked a stolen silver Ford F-250 pick-up truck in the Butte Larose area shortly after one of the early morning burglaries on November 17, 2018, and fled on foot.  The truck had previously been reported as stolen out of Lafayette Parish.

Richard Devyn Johnson was charged with the following:

  • Illegal Possession of Stolen Things-1 Count
  • Principal to Simple Burglary-2 Counts

He was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center. His bond is set at $5,000.

Zachary Johnson was subsequently booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center. He will be extradited to the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center at a later date and booked in on the following charges:

  • Illegal Possession of Stolen Things-1 Count
  • Principal to Simple Burglary-2 Counts

The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are pending in both St. Martin and Lafayette Parish.
