The Duchamp Opera House in St. Martinville will soon be reopening its doors.
The opera house is being renovated so it can be leased.
The historic building was built in the 1830s and was used for arts and crafts, but a lack of jobs and funding forced the city to close the building.
Mayor Melinda Mitchell hopes reopening will keep its legacy alive.
“It’s super important to keep the historic buildings up to par because it will show our future growing, that our children and grandchildren know that this is very historic,” said Mitchell.
