Some people in St. Martinville are gathering signatures for a recall petition against Councilman Dennis Williams.

The petition was filed in July and organizers of the recall say they haven’t been represented in the best way.

“Williams hasn’t been doing up to par the past 12 years and they feel that it’s time for a change,” Mourice Smith said.

For that reason, he’s working to recall Councilman Dennis Williams of District 3 in St.Martinville. Smith says people living in Williams’ district have talked to their councilman about some of the issues they are having. However, Smith says there isn’t enough being done to get those things taken care of.

“There’s sidewalks that’s falling apart that’s not suitable for people to walk on,” Smith said. “A lot of high grass in the neighborhood, debilitated houses, we need more lighting.”

Smith added to that list that more crime is happening and that alone should be a wake-up call.

“The demands haven’t been met,” Smith said. ” I think he’s put in the office to represent the whole district.I’m thinking you doing all of this in 12 years some type of progress should be shown and the people just not satisfied and they say it’s time for a change. ”

The petition needs 347 signatures to move forward with a recall effort. Smith says the petition has to be completed by October 15th.

KATC reached out to Williams. We were told he was out of town and as of news time we have not heard back from him.
