St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Lafayette man in connection with an armed robbery that happened in Cankton.
Raheem Demon Landry, 26, was booked with two counts aggravated second-degree battery and one count armed robbery using a gun. He posted $125,000 bond and was released.
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz tells us that Landry was booked in connection with a May 31 robbery at the Cankton Country Bar on Billeaux Road.
Two people were walking to their vehicle when a man robbed them at gunpoint, the sheriff said. The victims tried to fight him off, but he got away with $4,000 in cash, the sheriff said.
Detectives reached out to St. Landry Crime Stoppers to air the case on its weekly Crime of the Week program asking citizens for information about the crime. Detectives began interviewing witnesses and reviewing more video surveillance footage.
Through witnesses, video surveillance, and communication with bar patrons, Raheem Landry was identified as the person who allegedly committed the armed robbery. Landry was brought into the sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division where he was read his rights and agreed to speak to investigators without a lawyer present. Landry allegedly confessed to the armed robbery during an interrogation that was video and audio taped. Landry was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail.
“The investigation is still ongoing and we expect more arrest in the case,” Guidroz added.
