An arrest has been made in connection with an Opelousas fatal shooting in May.

The Opelousas Police Department says they have arrested 28-year-old Kendol Payne and charged him with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 22-year-old Steven Andrus of Opelousas.

Investigators say they established probable cause to charge Payne after interviewing numerous people with information about the morning that Andrus was shot and reviewing other evidence related to the case.

Investigators determined that an alleged dispute may have occurred between the Andrus and Payne on the morning of the shooting. The shooting happened on Philips Street near the Andrus’ home.

Payne will be booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on one count of second-degree murder.
