The State Fire Marshal’s Office says a 15-year-old was arrested on Friday on a charge of one count simple arson.
Deputies says that the teen is accused of setting a minor fire in the home his family was renting on Friday, May 24. The home is located on East Dean Street in Eunice.
After responding to the scene, the Eunice Fire Department requested assistance from the SFM to determine a cause of the fire. Deputies say that an assessment of the scene determined that the fire was intentionally set on a mattress.
Investigators questioned the teen who they learned was the only one home when the fire started. The teenager allegedly admitted to setting the mattress on fire out of anger for being punished.
The teen was arrested and booked on one count of simple arson. He was released into the custody of his parents following the arrest.
