Man arrested in connection with stabbing and beating of girlfriend

The suspect wanted in connection with a domestic battery and stabbing of an Opelousas woman has been arrested.

28-year-old Brandon James Smith, Sr. of New Iberia was arrested on aggravated second degree battery, false imprisonment, criminal damage to property, carrying of firearm by convicted felon, registration of sex offenders and child predators.

Smith was wanted for the February 7, 2019 alleged beating and stabbing of his girlfriend. The victim was allegedly dragged throughout the house by her hair, struck several times in the face, held at gunpoint, then cut and stabbed her multiple times.

He was arrested by St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office and booked into the parish jail.
