Congregants of burned churches have temporary places of worship

UPDATE: Mount Pleasant Baptist Church services are now being held at the Equine Sales Company, also known as the Equine Center, until further notice. Tomorrow’s Easter service is at 9 a.m. The Equine Sales Company is located at 372 Harry Guilbeau Road in Opelousas.

Three congregations that lost their churches in suspicious fires this week will have places to worship this weekend.

St. Mary Baptist Church will meet at 1120 N Main Street in Opelousas. The building is located next to Andy’s Super Value Store. Intercessory prayer is at 8 a.m., followed by Sunday school at 8:30 a.m. Worship service will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Greater Union Baptist Church will meet at 413 Lincoln St. in Opelousas. The building is Keystone Lodge #196. Service starts at 9:30 a.m.

Mount Pleasant Baptist Church is being asked to join in with Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Sunday school starts at 9:45 a.m., and morning worship is at 11:00 a.m. Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church is located at 1629 Duson Ave. in Opelousas.

These are meeting locations until further notice.

Federal agents and the State Fire Marshal are still investigating those fires that happened at predominantly black churches in St. Landry Parish.

As of Friday, there are no updates in the investigation. It remains ongoing.
