Victim identified in fatal crash in St. Landry Parish

UPDATE: The victim in a fatal crash in St. Landry Parish Thursday evening is being identified by police.

According to a spokesman with Troop I, 21-year-old Micky O’Connor, of Krotz Springs, was driving north on Hwy. 105, between Melville and Krotz Springs, when he crossed the center line and hit another car head-on as the two vehicles were negotiating a curve.

After the collision, the vehicles came to rest in the southbound lane of the highway.

State troopers responded to the crash at 5:15 p.m. The highway was partially closed as they investigated.

O’Connor was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries, the spokesman said. He died at the hospital.

The other driver involved was wearing their seat belt and was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

At this time, investigators don’t know if impairment was a factor in the crash; however. toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers.

The crash remains under investigation.
