A Unity Service to support the families of the three churches recently lost to arson is underway in Opelousas.

Gov. John Bel Edwards is among those attending the service, which is being held at Little Zion Baptist Church. Members of the St. Mary’s Baptist Church, Greater Union Baptist Church and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church were all invited to attend.

Here are some photos from the service, and a Facebook live:

Governor Edwards speaks at the Unity Service

This is an event the Governor spoke with pastors about last weekend, after the third fire and before the arrest of Holden Matthews, 21. Matthews was arrested Wednesday in connection with the fires. To see our coverage of that, click here, here and here.

Also participating in the service will be the Rev. Edward Alexander, who is the leader of the Louisiana Missionary Baptist State Convention. The Voices of Victory Community Choir will provide music; the choir is made up of singers from St. Landry and Evangeline parish churches.

We have a crew at the service, and so we will have more tonight on KATC TV3.
