Volunteers from across Acadiana are helping to preserve the banks along the Bayou Teche.

March 30th is designated as The Big Event where college students all over the country volunteer for improvement projects in the community.

Some Acadiana organizations decided The Big Event shouldn’t be limited to just students, so dozens gathered at the Leonville Boat Launch to learn about bank-line restoration techniques and help plant native vegetation along the bayou.

Others participated in the Trash Bash, traveling by boat to clean trash out of the bayou.

Once the work was finished, the TECHE Project provided volunteers with lunch and drinks.
