An Opelousas native has received a coveted American Idol golden ticket and is headed to Hollywood.

Emily Ortego announced on her Facebook page Wednesday that she has been waiting to share the news since October.

In her audition, Ortego sang an original song entitled “So I Sing,” written by Kevin Montgomery and Barry Ancelet.

Ortego says she received three ‘yes’ votes from judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.

“Even though my moments with them weren’t aired, I find peace in the fact that what happened in Denver will stay between me and them. They were so kind to me and so supportive of me and my story. I’ll never ever forget that,” Ortego said on her Facebook page.

According to CREATE Lafayette, Emily was a CREATE Lafayette scholarship recipient for South Louisiana Songwriters Festival & Workshop in 2018.
