The St. Landry Parish School Board will discuss three plans to redistrict, consolidate and close parish schools tomorrow.
The special board meeting is set for 4 p.m. at the board’s Supplementary Resource Center, 1013 Creswell Lane in Opelousas.

Board members have been discussing a revamp of parish schools for some time now, without resolution.
The three plans on tomorrow’s agenda are as follows:
Plan 1:
- Reconfigure Grolee Elementary from a Pre K – 6th grade elementary school to a Pre K – 4th grade elementary school beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Reconfigure Park Vista Elementary from a Pre K – 6th grade elementary school to a Pre K – 4th grade elementary school beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Reconfigure Northeast Elementary from a Pre K – 6th grade elementary school to a Pre K – 4th grade elementary school beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Reconfigure South Street Elementary from a Pre K – 6th grade elementary school to a 5th and 6th grade middle school for all students in Opelousas beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Close North Elementary school.
- Close Southwest Elementary school.
Plan 2:
- Reconfigure and consolidate all Opelousas Pre K students in the Opelousas Elementary schools to a Pre K program beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, site to be determined.
- Reconfigure Park Vista Elementary from a Pre K – 6th grade elementary school to a Pre K – 1st grade elementary school beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Reconfigure Grolee Elementary from a Pre K – 6th grade elementary school to a 2nd and 3rd grade elementary school beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Reconfigure Northeast Elementary from a Pre K – 6th grade elementary school to a 4th and 5th grade elementary school beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Reconfigure South Street Elementary from a Pre K – 6th grade elementary school to a 4th and 5th grade elementary school beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Consolidate all 6th grade students that attend Park Vista, South Street, North, Northeast, Grolee, and Southwest Elementary Schools to Opelousas Junior High School to become a 6th through 8th grade junior high school beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Admit 6th grade students to Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts (MACA)** to become a 6th through 12th grade junior / high school. ** Students must qualify and be admitted to the magnet academy via application**
- Close North Elementary school.
- Close Southwest Elementary school.
Plan 3:
- Consolidate Grolee Elementary to a Pre K – 6th grade elementary school beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Consolidate Park Vista Elementary to a Pre K – 6th grade elementary school beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Consolidate Northeast Elementary to a Pre K – 6th grade elementary school beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Consolidate South Street Elementary from a Pre K – 6th grade elementary school beginning with the 2019-20 school year.
- Close North Elementary school.
- Close Southwest Elementary school.
