Today, two days of Mardi Gras festivities in Opelousas wrapped up.
Every year, Lil’ Nate and his zydeco “krewe” host a huge party during Mardi Gras weekend in Opelousas. The party began with live music Saturday night by Lil’ Nate & The Zydeco Big Timers and other zydeco music bands. Sunday afternoon the parade and trail ride takes place, along with a chicken chase for all ages, even children. There was more live music tonight.
“The community enjoys the fact that they actually get to do this prior to Mardi Gras Day. They technically get two parades to enjoy within that same weekend, so they really look forward to it,” said Eva Noel, parade coordinator.
