Two arrested in connection with Grolee Street shooting in Opelousas

Opelousas Police say that the suspect in a Grolee Street shooting has been arrested following a high-speed chase. Another person, an alleged acquaintance who helped that suspect is also under arrest.

Thursday, investigators were following up on information related to Wednesday’s shooting on Grolee and Wallior Streets when they say they attempted to stop a vehicle that was occupied by a person of interest in the shooting.

Police say the vehicle failed to stop when signaled by officers and lead them on a high-speed pursuit in southwest Opelousas, ending just outside the Opelousas City limits near La. 357 & Dufilho Road. The pursuit ended after the vehicle crashed into a ditch.

During the pursuit, officers say they observed the driver throw several objects from the vehicle. Those according to police were several different packages of assorted narcotics. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Darrion Evans, was arrested. Police say he is the suspect wanted in connection with the Grolee Street shooting. That shooting was allegedly the result of an ongoing dispute between the victim and Evans.

Also charged in the investigation was 21-year-old Johnique Adams who is an alleged acquaintance of Evans. Police say she aided Evans after the shooting.

Opelousas Police seized $604.00 in cash, ecstasy pills, crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and a AK-47 style assault rifle.

Darrion T. Evans  is charged with the following:

  • Attempted 2nd degree murder
  • Felon in possession of a firearm
  • Illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Aggravated flight from an officer
  • Possession with intent to distribute Schedule I Narcotics (ecstasy)
  • Possession with intent to distribute Schedule II Narcotics 2cts. (crack & crystal meth)
  • Transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.

 Johnique Adams is charged with Obstruction of justice. Evans and Adams were booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail.
