Longtime St. Landry Parish educator dies

A longtime teacher in St. Landry Parish has passed away.

Funeral services for Katie Mae Greene Stagg were announced this week following her death on February 14, 2019. She died at St. Joseph Carpenter House in Lafayette

Stagg was a teacher with the St. Landry Parish School System for over 37 years. According to her son Jarvis, Stagg taught physical science, biology, and chemistry.

She was employed as a teacher at several schools: Northwest Elementary in Opelousas, Opelousas Senior High, LSU Eunice, East Junior High, Washington Elementary, Sunset Elementary, Opelousas Catholic, University of New Orleans, and Louisiana Tech.  Stagg also taught night school, upward bound, and GED course.

Stagg was a mother of four and a grandmother to twelve.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas.

Interment will be at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
