The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office released more information on Wednesday’s capture of escaped work-release inmate Ronald McGee.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says that McGee escaped on Sunday, February 10th after leaving the parish jail lobby on his return from work release.

Deputies say that McGee had allegedly been harassing his ex-girlfriend while on work release and was speaking with deputies in the lobby when he fled on foot. Deputies were unable to find McGee after a search of the surrounding area.

McGee was allegedly spotted operating an ATV in a field near Hwy 13 in St. Landry Parish by a Mamou Police Officer. Police and an Evangeline Parish deputy pursued McGee, but were unable to capture him, according to the Sheriff.

Guidroz says that a Mamou patrol unit struck the ATV in an attempt to disable it. It was found that the ATV was stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Ricky Myers Road in Eunice.

On Wednesday, February 13 the sheriff’s office was notified that McGee was at a local hospital getting treatment for injuries he sustained in the escape and that he wanted to turn himself in.

After being cleared by doctors, McGee was arrested and transported to the parish jail. He was booked on charges of simple escape and unauthorized use of a movable.
