A 78-year old Eunice man is recovering from injuries he suffered when he was attacked after walking in on a burglary at his own home.

That attack happened Monday night around midnight in the 1400 block of West Vine Street. Relatives say the victim is doing fine.

Police say one of the suspects hit the victim in the head, cutting him and requiring him to get stitches. The suspects got away with jewelry and a gun.

According to police, this is the second burglary to happen in this neighborhood in the last two weeks.

“It’s really kind of nerve-wracking, ” Michael Fontenot who lives nearby said. “It’s been happening more often. I really wish we could get a hold on it so everybody can feel safe in their homes again.”

KATC reached out to the man who was attacked and his family, but they declined to comment. The investigation is still ongoing.

“It’s really heartbreaking to hear somebody would do that to someone who means no harm to anyone,” Fontenot said.
