Annual gumbo cook-off in Opelousas to raise money for teenager with genetic disorder

The 13th Annual Gumbo Cook-Off is heating up in Opelousas.

This year’s proceeds will go to the family of 14-year-old Kylie Coulon who was born with with a genetic disorder called methylmalonic accidemia. She has been at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston since July 16, 2018, with most of that time spent in ICU.

Although the highlight of the event is the gumbo cook-off, there is also a motorcycle and jeep run, activities for the kids, silent and live auctions, food, drinks, and live music.

Admission is free.

The cook-off takes place at the intersection of E Landry and S Oak streets, near Frank’s Poboys.
