Three people were arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Opelousas early this morning.

Police received a call at 4 a.m. that someone had been robbed at gunpoint on East Landry Street near its intersection with I-49.

Officers were given a description of the suspects and their vehicle. The vehicle was later located near Creswell Lane. As an officer initiated a traffic stop, two people fled from the vehicle, according to a spokesman with the police department. Two others are said to have stayed in the vehicle and were detained by police.

While searching the vehicle, investigators discovered evidence related to the armed robbery and a gun that was reported stolen by a state trooper who had the gun personally engraved, the spokesman says.

Officers later located a third suspect walking with a group of people who call themselves the “Bently Gang” on social media.

Twenty-year-old Malik Montgomery, of Abbeville; 20-year-old Kenya Randall, of Bunkie; and 19-year-old Javen Moore, of Baton Rouge, were all taken into custody. Each was booked with armed robbery with a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.
