Opelousas City Officials say that more work will need to be done to repair the damaged water line that broke on Monday, December 24 at the City Water Plant in Opelousas.

Mayor Reginald Tatum and Chief Administrative Officer Rod Sias say that they were notified by the Public Works Department around 1:00 pm that more repairs are needed to fix the 16″ main ductile line at the Water Plant located on Guidry Street. Those repairs are scheduled to be made on Friday, December 28 between 12:00 am and 5:00 am.

The boil water advisory placed on residents of Opelousas on Monday will remain in effect until repairs are complete. Once complete water samples will be submitted for testing and approval by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (LDHH). The advisory will be lifted on their approval.

During the repair, residents may have their water temporarily shut off or experience low water pressure. Residents are advised to stock up on and store potable water (drinking water) for the duration of the repair and boil advisory.
