A man from Plaucheville is dead after a crash Saturday night in St. Landry Parish.
State troopers responded to the accident on Hwy. 71, near Chance Road in St. Landry Parish, around 9 p.m.
Troopers say 30-year-old Jarred Brown, of Port Allen, was driving southbound on the highway when he crossed into the northbound lane and hit the vehicle of 49-year-old Tony Smith.
Shortly after the crash, a third vehicle hit Brown’s truck. That crash is being investigated separately, according to a state police spokesman.
Smith, who troopers say was wearing his seatbelt, died at the scene.
Brown suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital.
According to the spokesman, troopers on the scene suspected Brown was impaired at the time of the crash.
Toxicology reports from both drivers are pending.
