A boil water advisory has been issued for the Town of Prairie Ronde after water samples showed the presence of E. coli.
Fecal coliform bacteria were found in water supply samples. This form of bacteria can lead to sickness, especially for people with weakened immune systems, according to a press release from the water system.
All residents are asked to boil water before consumption until further notice.
Bacterial contamination can occur when increased runoff enters the drinking water source, or when there is a break in the distribution system.
