As of 1 pm Friday, SLEMCO has 20,385 customers without power. Crews have restored power to more than 60,000 homes and businesses since Hurricane Laura made landfall, on Thursday.

Several hundred power line workers from throughout the region are working side-by-side with SLEMCO crews to restore power to customers as soon as possible. A spokesperson for the electric company said they will have crews working day and night until all power is restored.

Floodwaters are preventing crews from getting into some areas to work on power lines and wind damage is making the progress slow in other areas. They are beginning to work on smaller groups of outages and individual outages in all parishes. This is where the progress slows down due to varying degrees of damage at individual locations.

The spokesperson stated they intend to be hard at work for the next several days as they move through the system cutting trees, repairing damage and getting power back to everyone.

Outages can be reported by calling 1-888-275-3626. Customers can also login to their SmartHub accounts to report an outage.

As a reminder, all downed power lines should be reported to SLEMCO and considered energized and extremely dangerous.

SLEMCO customers can follow updates on the company’s website and Facebook page.
