COVID-19: Cancellations, closures and postponements in Acadiana

A number of events that were scheduled to happen in Acadiana in the coming days have been canceled or postponed.

If your event is canceled or postponed over concerns related to COVID-19 in Louisiana send an email to news@katctv.com to have it included on our list.

Those following list will be updated:

Statewide Restrictions Issued:

  • Gatherings are limited to no more than 50 people.
  • Casinos and bars will be closed.
  • Restaurants will be closed to patrons eating on site. Take-out, drive-through and delivery orders are allowed.
  • Movie theaters and bowling alleys will be closed.

The Louisiana Office of the Lieutenant Governor Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism announced that effective at 5 p.m. on March 24, all buildings and overnight facilities at Louisiana State Parks, including all buildings at all state historic sites, are temporarily closed. The closure will remain in effect until April 13, and no new reservations will be accepted prior to that date.

ACADIA PARISH

  • Eunice Symphony Orchestra Concert - Canceled

The Eunice Symphony Orchestra's "Classics by Candlelight" concert will not be held on Sunday April 5, 2020. All rehearsals in connection with the concert have been canceled. A later date will be planned and announced.

  • The St. Mathilda Catholic Church in Eunice, LA

Rescheduling of their Annual Spring Dinner Sales scheduled for Sunday, April 5, 2020 to a later date. However the tickets for that event are still good so keep them and don’t discard them. They will be recognized! Parishioners may still make their payments to the rectory, but should call 457-3286 for an appointment time. All raffle ticket stubs and funds should be turned in by Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 3PM because the drawing will take place at the scheduled time.

  • ASSIST Agency In an effort to reduce and limit the spread of Covid-19 and to preserve the health and safety of our staff and the public all locations of ASSIST Agency (Crowley, Abbeville, Jennings) will be closed to the public until further notice. No in-person appointments for client services will be made during this time. We may initiate an application for assistance by phone, however, we must have supporting documentation before final approval. We are not set up for online applications at this time. If you have any questions or if you are in need of services, please call 337-458-1734. Also, the regular bi-monthly board meeting is tentatively re-scheduled for April 27th, 2020. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We will publish updates to our schedule on our Facebook page, agency's website and local news media.

CALCASIEU PARISH

SOWELA Technical Community College Spring 2020 Commencement - Postponed
College officials announced on March 31 that it would be postponing its Spring 2020 commencement exercises scheduled for May 19 due to COVID-19. School officials say that if a reschedule date is not possible, students who would have walked during the May 19 commencement will be invited to participate in the Fall 2020 Commencement Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 18, in the Lake Charles Civic Center at 6:30 p.m.

CAMERON PARISH

  • LSU AgCenter Cameron Parish Extension Office - Closed

Out of an abundance of caution related to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, the LSU AgCenter Cameron Parish Extension Office will be closed to the public until further notice. Their faculty and staff will still be on duty and ready to assist you where we can. Please contact them with any questions or issues you may have at 337-905-1318. All AgCenter functions which include 4-H events, cattlemen meetings and fishery activities will be postponed until further notice. It has been decided that all applicators who have not yet been able to attend a recertification training with the local county agents prior to March 13, 2020, their certifications will be extended one year until March 31, 2021.
EVANGELINE PARISH

  • Ville Platte City Hall - closed

You may make payments at the Drive-Thru window and the payment drop box. If you need information or need to report a problem, you can call City Hall @ 363-2939. There will be no disconnection of utilities until further notice.

  • Mamou City Hall - Closed

Mamou city hall lobby will be closed to the public until futher notice. The drive thru will remain open.

  • Evangeline Parish Solid Waste Commission - Closed

Will not be opened to the Public for the next few weeks.

  • Acadiana Waste Services Offices - Closed

Will not be opened to the Public for the next few weeks.
All scheduled routes for garbage, limb and bulk collections will run and parish Dumpster Sites will remain opened during regular hours.

  • Pine Prairie Village Hall - Closed

As of March 19, 2020, Pine Prairie Village Hall will be closed to the public until further notice. Office personnel will be in the office during normal business hours. The village has made accommodations for payments to be made at the window next to the entrance door. If you have any questions, please call us at 337-599-2904.

IBERIA PARISH

  • Shadows on the Teche - Closed temporarily

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has made a decision to close Shadows-on-the-Teche effective Fri., March 13.At this time, all programs, events, etc., including Plein Air, are canceled/postponed.

  • St. Francis Diner - Closed temporarily

St. Francis Diner in New Iberia will be closed the week of March 16 through March 20 2020 due to the coronavirus - updates will come.

  • IPAL's production of The Music Man

Due to the Coronavirus threat, the IPAL Board of Directors has decided to postpone indefinitely the remaining productions of our spring musical, The Music Man. Those who have purchased tickets online will be have their money automatically refunded by Brown Paper Tickets. Others wishing a refund immediately can go to the agency at which they purchased a ticket to obtain a refund. Season ticket holders or others with tickets can email ipal@cox.net or call the IPAL office at 337-364-6114.

  • Iberia Parish Courthouse - Suspended temporarily

The 16th Judicial District has ordered that it will suspend most court proceedings until April 10. The suspensions include: all jury trials, both civil and criminal; all grand jury proceedings in the District; all criminal trials, hearings and court appearances are suspended except initial appearances (72 hour hearings), arraignments for incarcerated persons only and bond hearings; all civil trials, hearings and court appearances are suspended except for hearings related to the following: civil protective orders, emergency child custody matters, emergency interdictions and matters of public health related to the Corona Crisis; all hearing officer conferences; all support enforcement services matters.

  • Jeanerette Courts

All court dates set for April have been postponed to May 20 and May 21. Letters will be sent to defendants and witnesses with information about when to appear.
If you have a ticket with a mandatory court appearance, the court is waiving that requirement and allowing you to pay the citation without appearing in court.

  • New Iberia City Hall is closed to the public until April 13, 2020. They are still open for business.
  • Arc of Acadiana

In light of the recent Governor’s proclamation, Arc of Acadiana has closed the Lafayette, New Iberia and St. Landry Parish Day Programs until further notice. This includes Arc of Acadiana resale store locations / small business enterprises in those parishes.

  • Iberia Parish Libraries have made the following adjustments:

- Public access at all branches to computers has been suspended until further notice.- They will no longer be accepting donations at any of the branches until further notice.
- The reference librarian will be available through phone and online only. Their text-a-librarian service can be accessed by texting AskIPL to 66746. You can also email to newiberialib@yahoo.com.
- The Bunk Johnson Room will be unavailable until further notice.
Please note that all free online resources available through your Iberia Parish Library can be found on the library's website iberialibrary.org and most can be accessed from home with an Iberia Parish Library card.

Iberia Parish Council Meeting - March 25, 2020 - Canceled
The Iberia Parish Council have announced that the Economic Development District and Iberia Parish Council / Joint Committee meetings set for March 25 have been canceled due to the spread of COVID-19.

  • Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office will close all lobby areas.

Iberia Parish Welcome Center will be closed to the public until further notice effective March 26.

JEFF DAVIS PARISH

  • The City of Jennings will be limiting access to government facilities.

Beginning Midnight March 17, 2020, all events associated with the Jennings Festival Association, Strand Theater, Tupper Museum, City Parks and Recreation Activities, Sporting Events, Team Practices, the I-10 Oil and Gas Park and Gator Chateau, and the Jennings Carnegie Library will be closed until further notice. City Administration Offices and the Water Department will be closed for walk-in services; however, the public is encouraged to use Pay-by-Phone, Mobile-Pay, or the drive thru for water payments. All permits for Occupational Licenses and City Building Permits will be seen by appointment only. Occupational Licenses may be reached at 821-5500 and City Inspector at 821-5515 Jennings City Police and Fire Services will remain open, but public access will be limited to the front lobby. For any questions, please contact Jennings City Hall at 821-5500.

  • ASSIST Agency is closing all offices for an indefinite period of time in Acadia, Jeff Davis and Vermilion Parishes effective immediately due to precautions for COVID-19. You may initiate an application for assistance by phone, however, they must have supporting documentation before final approval. The Agnecy is not set up for online applications at this time. If you have any questions or if you are in need of services, please call 337-458-1734. Also, the regular bi-monthly board meeting is tentatively re-scheduled for April 27th, 2020.

LAFAYETTE PARISH

  • Lafayette City Court - closed

Normal operations at Lafayette City Court have been suspended until March 30. The suspension can't have any impact on civil or criminal prescription periods, the court advises. All court sessions scheduled between March 16 and March 27 are canceled and will be rescheduled. To read more detailed instructions from the court, click here.

  • Lafayette Consolidated Government - buildings are closed

All LCG buildings will be closed to the public, including City Hall, libraries and the parish Courthouse. Residents still will be able to pay bills via drive-thru, and also get books and AV materials from the libraries via drive-thru, he said. City-Parish parks will be open, but any buildings at those parks are closed to the public.

  • Lafayette Utilities System

Starting Monday, March 16, the LUS Customer Service locations at 1875 W. Pinhook Road and 2701 Moss Street will not be open to walk-in customers. Both locations will have a drop-box available for check or money order payments (do not drop off cash). The Moss location will have the drive-thru available for customers Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • 15th Judicial District Court - some hearings are postponed

Judge Marilyn Castle said the courthouse is not closed, but will have limited access. Castle issued an order on which matters will be postponed and which will go forward. To read that, click here. Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court Louis Perret says that the courthouses in the 15th Judicial District - Lafayette, Vermilion and Acadia - will be open tomorrow. Castle said the court is asking people who don't need to visit the courthouse stay home for now.

  • Lafayette Parish School System Offices

All locations of the Lafayette Parish School System including the Central Office, Vermilion Conference Center, and Nathaniel P. Moss Annex are closed to the public until further notice.

  • Youngsville Police Department

The Youngsville Police Department has closed its building to the public. The closure will not affect police operations, Chief Rickey Boudreaux says.

  • City of Broussard

The City of Broussard has closed all buildings to the public for this week. The City is open for business: all online services are available at utility bill payments, permits, and licenses; the drive-thru is open during normal business hours and available for all access; and assistance is available by calling 337-837-6681.

  • Arc of Acadiana

In light of the recent Governor’s proclamation, Arc of Acadiana has closed the Lafayette, New Iberia and St. Landry Parish Day Programs until further notice. This includes Arc of Acadiana resale store locations / small business enterprises in those parishes.

  • Rhythms on the River - Postponed

Due to the announcement by Governor Edwards to halt public events over 250 people until April 11th, Rhythms on the River will postpone the start date for our spring series. As soon as it is deemed safe, you can count on us to provide great music and lots of fun in a family-friendly setting. Our series is lucky to have the amount of support from our community and look forward to celebrating with you again soon.

  • Patty in the Parc - Canceled

Patty in the Parc, scheduled for this Saturday in Downtown Lafayette, has been canceled due to the growing concern about COVID-19 (coronavirus). The safety and health of our guests, staff and the community is our top priority and was a large part of making this tough decision. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials. Tickets purchased online will be refunded automatically through Eventbrite. Pre-sale tickets purchased in-person will also be refunded. Details on that refund process will be announced in the near future.

  • Be A Heart Starter - Postponed

The Be a HeartStarter CPR training was canceled over growing concerns related to the coronavirus outbreak. The training was scheduled for Saturday March 14, 2020 at the Blackham Coliseum. It will now be held in Fall of 2020.

  • Lafayette Parish School System Travel

The Lafayette Parish School System has canceled all out-of-state travel from students and staff through June 30, 2020.

  • Cirque du Soleil cancels all shows in Lafayette, NOLA

All performances of Cirque du Soleil's BAZZAR in New Orleans and OVO in Lafayette have been canceled.

  • KISS Concert at the Cajundome - Rescheduled

The concert in Lafayette scheduled for this week will now be Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Cajundome.

  • Lafayette Holi Festival - Canceled

In the interest of public safety, the Acadiana Indian Association has decided to cancel the 2020 Lafayette Holi Festival.

  • Lafayette Comic Con 2020 - Canceled

The Cajundome has announced that the 2020 Louisiana Comic Con canceled due to an abundance of caution over COVID-19. Refunds will be issued from the point of purchase. Ticketmaster will automatically issue refunds on those tickets purchased online. If tickets were purchased at the Cajundome Box Office then ticketholders need to bring the tickets back to them for refund, starting next week.

  • 2020 Region VI Social Studies Fair - Canceled

After much deliberation, and in the interest of public safety and public health, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette has decided to cancel the 2020 Region VI Social Studies Fair, originally scheduled for Saturday, March 14th, in Lafayette.

  • Toughest Monster Truck Tour at Cajundome - Rescheduled

According to the Cajundome, the Toughest Monster Truck Tour has decided to postpone next weekend’s (March 20 & 21) scheduled event at the Cajundome to the weekend of May 29-30 due to Coronavirus concerns. Tickets for the March event will be honored at the May event for the same night (Friday tickets for Friday, Saturday tickets for Saturday although this can be changed by bringing your tickets to the box office). Pit Passes for the March event will also be honored at the May event.

  • Lafayette Consolidated Government indoor & outdoor events - Canceled

Lafayette Consolidated Government is calling for all agencies and organizations to cancel all public mass gatherings, both indoor and outdoor through Sunday. They will re-evaluate after the weekend.

  • UL Lafayette Spring 2020 Sun Belt Conference - Canceled

UL Lafayette Athletics Director Dr. Bryan Maggard issued a statement stating that the Sun Belt Conference has been canceled indefinitely.

  • Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge

Brees Dream Foundation and Junior Achievement announces out of abundance of caution for COVID-19 outbreak, the 2020 Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge on March 19, 2020, is postponed. The event will be rescheduled on a later date during Spring 2020.

  • Family Adventure Day - Postponed
  • Friends of the Library Book Sale - Postponed

The Friends of the Library Book Sale has been postponed until this summer. Our sale always draws a large crowd and we felt it best to postpone for the health of our patrons and our volunteers.

  • LCG Dean Domingues Compost Facility Services - Suspended

Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Dean Domingues Compost Facility located at 400 Dugas Road (off North University Avenue) will close for yard waste drop off. The closure is due to specialized equipment needing maintenance which affects the facility’s ability to accept and process its usual volume of yard waste. Compost will continue to be offered to residents at no charge. The facility is expected to reopen for drop off services by the end of the month.

  • Cajun Chili Fest - Rescheduled

Fundraising event moved to August 1, 2020. Cajun Chili Fest, originally scheduled for March 28, has been rescheduled for August 1.

  • Acadiana Symphony Orchestra Season Finale: Sounds of the Crown -Canceled
  • Hearty Party event - Rescheduled

Our Hearty Party event originally scheduled for March 21 at Vermilionville has now been rescheduled for June 13.

  • Carencro Easter Family Fest - Canceled

Due to developments surrounding COVID-19 coronavirus, Easter Family Fest, originally scheduled for April 4, has been canceled. The Carencro Cultural District looks forward to hosting its other scheduled special events this fall and holiday season.

  • Weekend and weekday worship services, group meetings, etc. at First Baptist Lafayette - Canceled

  • Much Ado About Nothing - Postponed

Performances of Much Ado About Nothing at John Paul the Great Academy in Lafayette, originally scheduled for March 18, 20, and 22, 2020 have been postponed until a later date (to be announced).

  • Miranda Rites Production Murder Mystery Dinner at Sunny Meade - Postponed
  • Youngsville Fire Department

Both Youngsville Fire Stations are locked down from the public. They will make a decision for April reservations at a later date.

  • Scott City Hall will be closed to the public until further notice. City Hall will be operating normal working hours and will be handling all transactions in the drive thru window.

EVENTS CANCELED:March 18th and 25th: No French Table

March 21st: No Casino Night for SVFD
March 28th: No Easter Egg Hunt

They have not made a decision regarding the Scott Boudin Festival and will not make a decision until April 1st. Late fees will be waived during the month of March. Call 337-233-1130 for any questions or concerns. If you need to purchase a permit, contact City Hall, so that arrangements can be made.

  • The 8th Annual Boudin Festival according to the City of Scott has been postponed until September 18, 19, and 20, 2020 amid the current COVID-19 situation.
  • Bayou Vermilion District ceases all operations until the threat has passed. Bayou Vermilion District consists of Vermilionville, Water Quality, and Bayou Operations.
  • Carencro Suspends PARC Activities - As part of social distancing in the wake of COVID-19 coronavirus, activities at both Carencro's Pelican Park and the Carencro Sports Complex have been suspended for the next two weeks.
  • Lafayette Art Association KIDS ARE ARTISTS TOO art competition - postponed
  • Moncus Park Gala - Postponed
  • Cité des Arts will be postponing all scheduled performances and events until April 13. The postponement or cancellation of any regularly scheduled classes at Cité des Arts will be at the discretion of the individual organization or instructor. Contact your instructor for any information on those classes.
  • UL's The Big Event is postponed.
  • Lafayette Parks and Recreation Annual Easter Egg Hunt for Sunday April 5 has been canceled.
  • Hillard Museum is closed until further notice. The closure affects the main museum building, the A. Hays Town building, and all gallery and exhibition spaces. All public programming and tours are canceled.
  • Festival des Fleurs - canceled

Festival des Fleur which was scheduled for April 18th has been canceled.

  • European Wax Center - temporarily closed

With the health and well-being of our guests, our associates, our families and our communities at the forefront of our minds, we are doing our part in the crusade against COVID-19. We have monitored the situation closely and have made the very difficult decision to temporarily close our European Wax Centers in Baton Rouge and Lafayette as of March 19th. We will be reaching out to all guests who had reservations booked with us during this time, and we will continue to update our social media pages for any changes that may occur. We truly value our guests and look forward to welcoming them back in to our centers.
Zoosiana is closed to the public temporarily due to the Coronavirus / COVID19 situation in our local and surrounding communities. We will reopen when conditions improve. Stay safe.

UL Bourgeois Hall has been closed, and all intramural sports and recreation events are currently canceled.

UL Residence Halls have been closed to nonresidents. No visitors, including students who live in other campus residence halls, will be admitted beyond the front desk. All clubhouses and community rooms located in residence halls and campus apartment complexes are clsoed.

Lafayette Memorial Park has canceled its Annual Easter Sunrise Service due to the state's mandate of limiting gatherings to 50 or fewer.

Lafayette Parish Waterworks District North is closing their lobby starting Thursday, March 19, 2020, LPWDN’s lobby located at 307 Rue Scholastique will be closed to walk-in customers to reduce any spread of the COVID-19 virus. Payments may be made by mail or online at lpwdn.com. Check and money order payments may also be made at the drop box located at the above address. Do not drop off or mail cash. The distric also is suspending service disconnects for the next 60 days, but urges customers to continue to pay their bills. Customers may contact LPWDN at (337) 896-8683.

Dewey Balfa Cajun & Creole Heritage Week (Balfa Week) - Canceled
Louisiana Folk Roots announced on March 18 in a Facebook post that it had made the difficult decision to cancel its annual music festival/camp. The post said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution due to the potential public health risk to its patrons. Louisiana Folk Roots said it will be working from home to come up with a way to make up for the huge loss.

LUS Integrated Resource Plan Second Community Session - Postponed
Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) is postponing its second community input session for the LUS Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) which was to be held at the Lafayette Main Library on April 8th. At this time, no future date has been set. The IRP is a roadmap that will help LUS’s objectives of providing affordable and reliable energy while addressing the future electric needs for Lafayette and the input sessions are to collect public feedback in developing LUS’s plan.

IHOP on Evangeline Thruway - Closed until further notice

Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center - Closed until further notice
Though we are still looking after the animals in our care, we have suspended services to the public due to the Governor's Stay At Home order. If you have an emergency, please dial 911. ST. LANDRY PARISH

  • City of Opelousas - Buildings closed

The City of Opelousas announced Monday, March 16 that all city buildings will be immediately closed due to COVID-19. Mayor Julius Alsandor says that the city will remain open for business transactions.

  • St. Landry Parish Jails - Visitation suspended

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office has announced that visitation to the 39 inmates housed in its three parish facilities across the state has been suspended.

  • TRIAD's Senior Citizen Workshop
  • The Liberty Theatre and its events are closed until further notice
  • Eunice City Courts

The court has shut down normal operations until April 6. All court sessions until April 3 have been canceled. If you have a ticket with a mandatory court appearance, you may be able to get that waived and just pay the fine.

  • Arc of Acadiana

  • Grand Coteau Town Hall - Closed

Due to the COVID-19, the Town Hall will close today and remain closed throughout April 13th. You can pay your bill via the drop box only money orders or checks, ABSOLUTELY NO CASH! Anything you need, please contact the Police Department, they will know how to get in touch with each supervisor.

  • Pesticide Pick-up Program

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) has postponed its second pesticide pick-up program to collect unwanted pesticides from agricultural producers across the state who need assistance disposing of them properly. The event was to take place at the St. Landry Recycling Center.

  • St. Mary Parish Courthouse will be closed to the public effective Monday, March 23, 2020 until further notice.

District Court is closed through April 10, 2020. All parish libraries are closed to the public; however, plans are being made for book drop-off and pick-up. Please contact your local library for details. All restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops shall cease any on-premises consumption of food or beverages. These establishments may continue take out, drive-thru, and delivery services. Hotel restaurants may continue operations, but only for the service of hotel guests via room service.All regular curfew times for minors are still in effect.All religious gatherings should practice social distancing. Some churches have suspended religious services and other activities. All bars are closed. All visitation to the parish jail and city jails have been suspended.

The City of St. Martinville announced Monday, March 16, 2020 that all city buildings will be closed to the public. due to COVID-19. The City will remain open for business transactions through the drive-thru window. Mayor’s Court has been canceled for March.

  • Heartstrings & Angel Wings Gumbo Cookoff - Postponed

The 12th Annual Heartstrings & Angel Wings Gumbo Cookoff (held in Henderson) originally scheduled for March 21 is going to be postponed.

  • St. Martin Council on Aging Recreation and Meal services will shut down at the Sydnie Mae Activity Center (Breaux Bridge) as of Tuesday, March 17. Beginning Wednesday, March 18, congregate meals will be delivered along with Meals on Wheels until further notice. Services at Magnolia Park (St. Martinville) were shut down on March 16, per the instructions of the City of St. Martinville. Other services will be limited, due to safety concerns of both employees and seniors and transportation will be available for medical and dialysis appointments only. St. Martin Council on Aging will close at 1:00pm daily, beginning Wednesday, March 18, until further notice. During this time, the Activity Center will be unavailable for use for any reason.

The Tourism Staff is available to respond to your phone calls (337-394-2233) and e-mails (tourism@stmartinville.org), but our offices will remain closed to the public.

  • St. Martin Parish public libraries shall be closed to the public. The staff will continue to work in the facilities. If any library services are needed, please contact one of the parish libraries who can address your needs.
  • St. Martinville Cleanest City Contest and Save the Tree Postponed The City of St. Martinville and St. Martinville Garden Club have announced that the judging for the Cleanest City Contest slated to take place on March 24, 2020, has been postponed. Trash Bash, scheduled for March 21, has also been canceled. The Garden Club has also postponed their Save the Tree program, concerning the Evangeline Oak, which was also set for March 24.
  • Opelousas Police Department is closing its building to the public. During this time the department will not be providing non-criminal fingerprint services and in-person police report processing. Accident reports can be purchased online at https://policereports.lexisnexis.com/search/search. Any other reports can be requested by phone 337-948-2500 or by email: reports@opelousaspd.com. The Department also is preparing to make other changes in service response and will notify the public when those changes go into effect. Currently calls for service are still being handled as usual.

  • St. Martin Sheriff: The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office will close its offices to the public and suspend routine, in-person services beginning Monday, March 23, until further notice. Business services will be available to the public over the phone during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and online at www.stmartinsheriff.org [stmartinsheriff.org]. Deputies will continue to perform regular patrols and criminal operations.

VERMILION PARISH

  • Pre-Kindergarten Enrollment Round-up - Canceled

Pre-Kindergarten Enrollment Round-up for the following Vermilion Parish Schools: LeBlanc Elementary, Eaton Park Elementary and Dozier Elementary are canceled. The new event dates will be released upon the reopening of Vermilion Parish Schools.

  • The City of Abbeville will not have a City Council meeting on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. The next scheduled regular City Council meeting is April 7, 2020 beginning at 5:30 PM.
  • Kaplan is canceling its City Council meeting scheduled for March 17. . City employees are not allowed inside anyone's home or dwelling for any purpose beginning immediately, according to the mayor. City employees will still be performing their job duties. If you are paying a bill, it will need to be done through the drive-thru, the night deposit, the kiosk, the internet or by mail. This begins immediately. All meetings of City Hall employees and the mayor will be handled by phone for now. Call city hall with any concerns at 643-7118.
  • Maurice is limiting all walk ins and appointments until further notice. In order to do so, they are asking that citizens use the drop box when possible or contact them by phone with any issues, questions or concerns.   • Geaux Green for St. Jude, Kaplan - Canceled

Geaux Green for St. Jude in Kaplan has been canceled at Turnley Park. Organizers plan to reschedule for a later date.

  • ASSIST Agency is closing all offices for an indefinite period of time in Acadia, Jeff Davis and Vermilion Parishes effective immediately due to precautions for COVID-19. You may initiate an application for assistance by phone, however, they must have supporting documentation before final approval. The Agnecy is not set up for online applications at this time. If you have any questions or if you are in need of services, please call 337-458-1734. Also, the regular bi-monthly board meeting is tentatively re-scheduled for April 27th, 2020.

Due to concerns over the coronavirus and heeding directions from Gov. John Bel Edwards’ office, the 2020 Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction ceremonies scheduled for March 26 in Baton Rouge have been postponed until further notice. This year’s inductees ‒ James Barnett, John Denison, Jay Hardwick and Calvin Viator ‒ will be celebrated at a later date in recognition of their significant contributions to the state’s agricultural community. Previously purchased tickets will be honored at the rescheduled date.

Beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020, in response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation the museum will temporarily close. In alignment with Governor Edwards’ proclamations, the Museum may remain closed until Monday, April 13, 2020.
