Rayne Police say that the bridge north of Rayne near Chef Roy's on Hwy. 35 is closed until further notice after it began to buckle.

Police say that the bridge sank eight inches and then began to buckle, which caused damage to vehicles.

The Department of Transportation and Development is currently conducting an inspection on the bridge to figure out why it sunk in the first place.

Rayne Police are on scene directing traffic and drivers are asked to take an alternate route.

One alternate route is Nation Rd. to Hwy. 98.

Police say they will update on the situation once DOTD has completed their inspection.
