Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette is requesting the public's help in restocking the blood supply in the Acadiana area.

Officials say that Acadiana is experiencing a critical shortage of blood donations and that all blood types are needed.

The hospital says that due to COVID-19, cancellations of blood drives at high schools, companies and community events have occurred. Coupled with a nationwide blood shortage, other blood centers are unable to help support the community when donations fall short.

"Lourdes Blood Donor Center is working hard every day to meet the needs of the patients in our community during these difficult times," a release states. "It is imperative to have a steady blood supply available to support our patients. The need for blood never stops and there is no substitute for human blood when it is needed for a patient."

Lourdes reminds the public that it is safe to donate blood. Lourdes Blood Donor Center has implemented several new safety measures in response to COVID-19 to provide a safe donation experience for blood donors who visit.

Those who would like to donate blood can make an appointment or ask questions about your eligibility to donate by calling (337) 470-GIVE (4483) or visit their website. A schedule of where Lourdes' mobile unit will be is available a that site.

Donations can be made a Lourdes Blood Center located on Ambassador Caffery Ste. 360. Center Hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:30 pm and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
