Lafayette Consolidated Government officials are taking to social media to remind everyone to get prepared for hurricane season.
In a Facebook post Friday, LCG encouraged residents to invest in flood insurance. The post includes a link to the FEMA website with more information on the effects of recent hurricanes and flooding damage.
According to FEMA, just one inch of flooding can cost more than $25,000 in damage to a home or business.
Policies typically take up to 30 days to go into effect, and most homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage.
This year forecasters are predicting an average hurricane season.

Insurance agents also recommend that you review your homeowner’s policy to go over your deductibles to make sure you can cover any initial costs before the claim kicks in.
Those that rent need to make sure they are covered too by having renters insurance to protect their personal property.
But the best thing to do is to meet with an insurance agent to discuss your needs so they can help put together the right policy for your desires.
