The Lafayette Police Department has released a statement in regards to a photo posted by an officer on social media.

The post which shows an officer in uniform and sitting in a police cruiser states, “Feeling cute, might go pop some shots off in Truman later, idk.”

The post was in reference to the Truman area of Lafayette.

Lafayette Police Chief Toby Aguillard says the officer will face appropriate discipline and mandatory sensitivity training. He says it does not reflect the values or professional expect from a Lafayette officer.

A full statement from Aguillard is below:

“A regrettable circulating social media photograph containing a young Lafayette Police Department officer has recently been brought to the department’s attention.

The Lafayette Police Department would like the community to know that the image does not depict or reflect the values or professionalism expected from a Lafayette police officer. As a consequence, the officer involved will be facing appropriate discipline after a complete investigation as well as mandatory sensitivity training.

The Lafayette Police Department will continue to strive to maintain a positive transparent relationship with the citizens of this community.”

The post was in reference to the “Feeling Cute Challenge” where social media user would share photos with the phrase “Feeling Cute, Might X Later.” That challenge began in March of this year.
